3 Reasons To Fall In Love With Yourself (Even More)

Hello beautiful!

Do you believe everything happens for a reason?
That’s my life’s mantra, but too many times it has me wondering… but why?

In the last 10 days, 90% of the appointments/meetups/meetings I had scheduled have been C A N C E L L E D.
Did you get that? 90%! That means only 1 in 10 actually happened.

Worst part? Most of them I was notified the same day or super late the day before.

When I first left Spain, this is something that was really hard to live with.
We, Spaniards, might be popular for being fashionably late, but one thing you might not know about us is that we’re COMMITTED.

If we have set a date and time on the agenda that’s sacred unless you’re in the hospital, you make it happen!

Nowadays, I don’t get “mad” about it anymore. Instead, I consciously take it as a sign from the universe to do a self-checkup and see if I’ve evolved.

It’s not that I still don’t find it disrespectful, but let’s say that I’ve just moved on!
And have come to identify who are the ones who honour (my) time and who are the ones who don’t!

Just like what happened yesterday, I had one appointment cancelled (surprised? Haha!) and took it as a sign to take the day off to enjoy myself and went shopping for a couple of hours.

I didn’t buy anything, (remember I shop differently now ;).

While I was in the fitting room trying on some clothes and I heard what was going to be the sign to write today’s blog post:
A mum and daughter in the next cubicle trying on some clothes.
The teenage girl says:

Oh I’m too short, I can’t wear these pants.
To which her mum said:
“Yes, oh well!” (as in what can you do!)

Sounds familiar? We’ve ALL been there at some point.
What are we getting WRONG every time this happens?

She didn’t even think about the possibility of those pants being cut in a way that doesn’t honour her body.

Which by the way, this brand makes super high rise pants that only a very specific (and not common) body type looks good in them.
It’s not the “perfect body type” (is there such a thing?), is just a specific one.

Not only that, her mum was on the same page, reinforcing the idea that there was something wrong with her body.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not criticising here.
I’m actually showing an example of how we (me included) put ourselves down without even realising it on an everyday basis!

Here are 3 reasons to be unconditionally in LOVE with your body:

1 - The Scientific Reason: You Look The Way You Do For a Reason

Your body is the way it is for a reason and there is a lot of scientific research backing up the body-mind connection.

Here’s a great book by Naomi Tickle: You Can Read a Face Like a Book: How Reading Faces Helps You Succeed in Business and Relationships .
In this book, Naomi discovers the amazing connection that our face features have with our personality.
Even the way we (image professionals), can identify your personality style, it’s observing the way your face and body look!

I’m the first one who’s woken up many times in the past with that familiar mean voice telling me: why on earth aren’t you an ectomorph? -aka the human type who has a very low amount of “meat” on top of their bones, naturally!- Like models.

The truth is, we’re in this world the way we are for a reason, and that’s connected with the way we look.

Not so long ago, I decided to start looking at myself through the eyes of love, and oh, boy! has that made a major difference in both my personal and professional life!

I have finally come to understand and actually LOVE the way I look.

Can we stop complaining about our bodies and start learning from them instead!?

To all those mean inner voices around the world, I have something to tell you (want to join me?):

image2.jpg

Dear Mean voice,
Thank you for trying to protect me and wanting me to get better at everything, I see you and also know, I’m safe and know that what you’re saying it’s just not true.

It’s a perception you have from comparing myself to others.

I’m the way I am for a reason.

Today I choose to celebrate my individuality, admire my beauty and send love to every single aspect of myself, including you, my dear mean voice.

Yours truly,
(insert name or your alter-ego name, your choice;) )

2 - The Let’s Get Real Reason: Choose Your Battles, I mean, Your Brands

Do yourself a favour and spot the right brands for your body!

There are millions of brands out there, and they all have a specific body type in mind.
Some tend to create straighter clothing and some curvier.

Some design longer pieces, some shorter.

That’s the beauty of it, the variety!

The number of options that are out there are endless!

NOTE: there’s barely any perfect garment out of the rack for your body.
They’re all created to fit a certain group of people, but you’re unique!
You can always use alterations to make it work for YOU.

Remember, your body is NEVER the problem.
It’s just a matter of finding the right fit!

3 - The Spiritual Reason: We Are Sacred, And So Is Our Body.
We need to honour our nature and realise that there’s no real perfection!

Each one of us sees the world from our unique perspective that comes shaped by our culture, the way we were brought up, the people we surround ourselves with, etc.

If you think about it, what’s perfect for one person can look incredibly imperfect to another.

I wouldn’t say it’s because there’s no perfection, but rather that we’re perfect the way we are.

Just like my beloved Ne-Yo says in his song:
“It’s our Imperfections that Truly make us perfect”.

I see our body as the home our soul chose to be in, and just how we like our home to look pretty and cosy, I like taking care of my body, putting the best food I can find and always improving my habits as well as putting clothes on that make my body HAPPY.

How can you use style to make your body happy?
Buying quality clothing (Check out my post on this here)

Investing in natural/breathable fabrics (check out my podcast episode on this)

Choosing pieces you are excited to wear (I have a whole free masterclass on this)

Wearing colours that harmonise with your natural colouring (I wrote more on this here)

Now, I’d love to hear from you:
What’s something you can do from now on to honour your body?

Remember:
“As my friend Bruno says: You’re Amazing Just The Way You Are.
To which I add: Spot the clothes that match your level of amazing, get out there and make the world a better place.”

Sending you much love and style power,

XX
